From a physical standpoint, men are usually looked upon as a form of strength (such as the typical construction worker). When their inner personality (such as someone who is caring and gentle) contrasts their outer features (such as being physically strong) is there something really appealing about that? I have heard that to some extent, but havent been able to nail down the reasoning.

Yes it is very appealing.

Same with a scrawny-looking yet tough guy.

This would differ from woman to woman, but personally, yes, it is. You've heard of how bad boys get the girls. They just never keep them. Now think of a man who looks strong and, well, masculine, like the bad boy who all girls fall for at one time or another, who has the personality to keep the woman. In the long run, people are looking for someone to accept them. The caring personality does that. The strong appearance is a plus.

A woman wants to be cared for and treated tenderly by a man, but wants to feel safe and secure that he is physically capable of protecting her. At least.... that's the way I feel about it as a woman.

When a man is very strong and confident in his strength, he can be gentle with the woman he loves and/or children.

Why you are using the word Mans, it could be Women too. If you are a student of a psychology then you should know that personality is very important and what is included in personality actually.

A man could have a nice muscle body but not good in talking or dressing. Or Could be well in talking and dressing but have weak body. When we meet someone these factor count.

Answer to your question is yes

Just be real! That is most appealing! If it hurts, cry... just don't be a baby; if its too heavy to lift by yourself, ask for help... don't slip a disc trying to be toughman... cause then all we hear is your crying like a baby for being idiotic!! Also if we insist that we can lift it, let us try and be amazed by our efforts not critical or intimidated... One day you might be in need of us to pick up a car in order for you to be rescued! Build us up, don't beat us down, and we will do the same.

There is something really appealing about a big strong guy who treats a woman, and/or children with complete gentleness.

hmmm... good question. I think that to some extent, this is appealing, but if the contrast is too much, it could be bad. gentleness and being humble could be an advantage.
