Why can parents discipline their kids, instead of being their friends? I have seen parents at the mall, in grocery stores, at the movies and I always feel this exasperation because some parents are too lenient with their kids, for example at the grocery store kids tell their mother that they want her to buy them a toy, the mom says no, because she does not have money for it, the kids start yelling their lungs out until their mommy tells them to go and get the toy they want. What is this mommy teaching her kids? what technique to use to make her buy them what they want. some kids of this generation know they have it made, there are no rules to obey or they know that parents are an easy target to manipulate. Parents, do not want to bother in trying to set some rules for their kids to follow. A parent is the first teacher a child learns from, and we, as parents should show our kids some manners in behavior. and set some rules for them also. if they do not obey them punish them by taking something that they treasure. I am pretty that it will work, if Parents take the time to get involved with their kids.

Alot of times parents try to do the opposite of what their parents did. If their parents where very strict they want to raise their kids differently. Try telling your parents that while you appreciate that they want to be your friends.......you have plenty of friends & what you really need is parents. Parents to discipline you when you have done something wrong. Parents to help you become a better adult. Thank them for caring enough to want to be your friend, but let them know that you really feel that is doing more harm then good.

Also, remember that when they are discipling you......you are the one who wanted "parents" not "friends". Trust me....you do want your parents to be parents & not friends.
