Animal science deals with domesticated animals - breeding, care, etc. It is a kind of applied zoology. Zoology covers the animal kingdom in general, from a purely biological perspective. Of course that is a very large field of study, so there are many specialized fields within zoology, like mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, icthyology, entomology, etc.

From what you've given, that animal science is under the subject of agriculture, I would say that would be centered more on hands on, medical aspects of animals, whereas zoology would be more of studying them.

I would contact the college itself, or check out the website - there is probably a list of the required classes for each major, and that will give you a good idea of the differences.

At my university they had both majors and most of the pre-vet kids were animal science majors, although you can go to vet school with a zoology major as well. I remember the animal science dealt a lot with farm animals, they learn how to care for pigs, sheep, goats etc. A few of the classes did overlap between the two majors such as physiology, biology, chemisty, etc.

For agricultural purposes. Animal science is often included in two year institutions, for future farmers.
