I have lived in SD, and now live in NY. Stay there! Really, ok I'll be honest, it's because I miss SD and am jealous of anyone who is still there. I still wish I had never left but that is just me. NY is a great place, if you're planning on the city though keep in mind it's a LOT more crowded and dirty and congested than SD BUT there is still a lot going for it too, so much to do and see and if you've got the education jobs are ok too. But the way I see it, you've got the best of both worlds there, SD is a big enough city to have plenty to do and see and still not too big. Either way it's expensive so if you can afford to live there than you should be able to afford to live in NY but it really isn't the same. I know this probably didn't help a lot but to me San Diego is the place I want to end up at again someday and I just wanted to put my vote in for it. But if you're not happy there then maybe it is time to move on. Eventually we all find out where we are really happy to be and unfortunately in my case it was AFTER I left SD and I'll regret it always.

I had been in San Diego & I think both are entirely the opposite of each other.
LIfe in New York is fast phased. In San Diego, you take your time.
What are your interests? In San Diego, the weather is favorable the whole year round. It is not that trendy as New York.
Here, visit the Sea World & San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park. Try riding the trolley, it will give you an idea what the whole San Diego is all about. San Diego is widespread. I had bought 2 maps before going there however, both are incomplete. The 3rd I bought was more complete but you need a magnifying lens.
You can go to the last American exit. There is an outlet store there at San Isidro.
Coronado Bridge gives you a spectacular view of the beaches. This bridge is one of the tallest in the world & was awarded for its structure. Hotel Coronado is one of the most beautiful hotels in the USA & in the world.
Carlsbad is where Legoland is & where you can see strawberry fields. However, this depends on the season. Oceanside has also a nice view.
New York on the other hand is so busy. I heard that the subway is dirty. I think people in San Diego are more conservative. It is an ideal place for retirement because of its weather.
