the pc (motherboard pc chips) even though is set to see the hard drvie config automatically...doesn't. when booted it says the boot record cannot be found but when i hit the reset key it will find the hard drive with no problem. Why would it need to be reset after cold power on for it to work? The drive is configed as master and everything in bios seems right. Thanks!!!!

Computers Usually have a small battery in the mainboard to save the bios settings. sometimes when this battery goes low in power, you loose the bios settings so it could be that this Little battery is low in power and might need to be replaced.

See if you can add a "boot delay" or enable the memory check when bootup, which will slow down the boot, giving the HD a chance to spin up.
