The US like every other country cannot be prefect because PEOPLE are not perfect. If we had perfect people we would have no violence, depressions, murders, suicide, debt. When we as human beings start being perfect them maybe we have a chance for this perfect society you wish for, but unfortunately i don't see that happening anytime soon. Around 30% of the US is living below the poverty line, while you have others living way above it and this will never disappear although the percentage might go down it will never be nonexistant. Mental disorders will never disappear, which are cause of some crimes. People are going to want things they can't afford so they steal, this will never change it has been going on since the beginning of time and i see no end to it.

Not practical thinking, the reason hybrids are not mass produced is because of cost issues and its still cheaper to run a car on regular fuel, and depression and suicide will always be around us. Social Engineering is going down a slippery slope, and state should not Nannie things that are nuisance. Big difference between a person who is a theart to public safety than a homeless person just walking the streets. Finally, College is not for every-person, and I'm starting to realize college system rips people off, and a lot of jobs do not require a college degree. Only the jobs in business, medicine, law a college degree is required. Can give every person a college degree in America we only need 1/3 of the people to have a degree in America.

It's very simple. We are capitalist society. Everything, and I mean everything, ultimately revolves around MONEY! Got it? MONEY! There was a time when this country was very much like your ideal. We had Leave it to Beaver on TV, and everything was hunky dory. The problem is, as nice as it was, there is no money in a country like that. In order to take care of the people, and cure the ills of society, money has to come from somewhere. The tax brackets in those days were 70 and even 90% on rich people. No one wants to pay that. Another choice is to cut military spending. Since we had no real enemies following the fall of the Soviet Union, Clinton did that and things started improving, they really did. That's all been wrecked now. There is just too much profit in having enemies, so we made some. In a true capitalist society, I think you have to learn to live with ugly things. The whole point is to get more out of you neighbor than he gets out of you. We call it the market.

I don't mean to "rain on the pessimists parade".. that we seem to have going here in this question...
but if you look at it... we're on the path... it's just a very, very, very long path... and we're not far from the beginning...
if you look at all of the issues you have mentioned... they have almost ALL improved over the past 100 to 1,000 years... and hopefully they will keep improving...
but people don't like to change and it's slow... but we are moving in the right direction... Rome wasn't built in a day... and what you're asking for is billions of times more complicated than Rome ever was...

The US has continued to use the age old "conquerer's mentality". The US will be more perfect when citizens become involved in the government. It's not enough just to vote. You must go to town meetings and get involved. You can't vote, turn over the decisions to leaders who need you and then expect them to be perfect. They will be perfect when everyone is involved.

I hate to say it but it won't ever happen, it's against human nature. If it ever did happen, we would have to evolve or something. We haven't gotten the "Survival of the Fittest" out of our genes yet. We try to attract mates, by showing how fit we are. So long as we choose our mates by how well they can provide, how flowing their muscles, or how beautiful their body. We will continue down the self destructive path.

It could happen (but alternative fuels are in general not as good as they sound) but it would need to be a religious society (a conservative christian or Jewish one most likely) and everyone would need to hold the ideals to heart. it would require a need for productive physical work as well. the people would need to hold the community above themselves, and enjoy doing it. some would call it the millennial reign.

You cannot control human nature. People are wired differently. Some are dishonest. Some are killers. Others are mentally ill. There is no way to stop that completely.
You are looking for Utopia. It doesn't exist and never will.
