I just found out that I was pregnant about 3 days ago!!! We are so happy. The thing is that I have been getting sharp cramps that last about 5 seconds and I get them at most 3 times a day. I got them even before I found out that I was pregnant but I just thought my period was comming. I have no bleeding at all. I never even got implantation bleeding. I know that light cramping is normal when you are implanting but obviously I am about two weeks past that. I havnt chosen a dr. yet and my insurance doesnt kick in for another few weeks or I would ask the doctor. Is this normal? What could be causing this??? Should I be worried???

Hello there,
Dont be to concerned... I had the same thing and I am currently 9 weeks pregnant!!! YEAHHHHHHHH.. Anyways I had the same cramping and then when I took a pregnancy test it came up positive and I was so happy but scared at the same time because I couldnt figure out what was causing the cramps but then when I asked the doctor he told me that is normal because its your bodies way of adjusting to something being in there and your uterus is already starting to grow because of the placenta and the sac......I still to this day get those cramps every once in awhile thru the day and they last like 5-10seconds and go away.. You should have nothing to worry about!!! I do want to say CONGRATULATIONS>>> We were so excited also.. This is our first baby so we are thrilled!!!!!!!!! If you would like to chat any further you can email me at monicascooking4u@yahoo.com ... have fun and just take it easy..... Be careful through the first 14 weeks.. Just think 9 more weeks till you are through the first trimester!!!!
Monica

I am a mother of 3 boys and please rest asure that this is totally normal. Even tho your only 5 weeks, your body is going through all sorts of crazy changes. The sharp pain you is most likely your joints, muscles and ligaments stretching to acommdate the pregnancy. Also. during pregnancy, you have Braxton Hicks contractions. These are "fake" contractions that you have the entire pregnancy. You may not always feel them but they are a quick tightening feeling. They help prepare your body (uterus) for childbirth. Also i have to stress the importance of prenatal care. Find a doctor as soon as possible. If you are waiting on medicaid as an insurance, you should know that most states allow you to go to your appointment and they can "back pay" the visit once your card arrives. A couple of books that i really liked and found helpful durning my pregnancies were " The Girlfriends Guide To Pregnancy" and " What To Expect When Your Expecting".
Also. there are many websites on pregnancy that you can learn from as well. Babycenter.com is probably the most popular. I also like epregnancy.com and amazingpregnancy.com. Good Luck and Congrats =)

Congrats.
You should be just fine I cramped the first 6 to 8 weeks with both my children. Just keep an eye on them and if you start bleeding then call a doctor. And if you do bleed it doesn't mean there is a problem either my grandma had 2 full term pregnancies and had 8 periods with both.

I had cramping during implantation, but only for a couple of days. I did not experience cramping until week 14 but if I were you I would lay down, drink lots of water 3 8oz glasses and rest, as long as there is NO bleeding you should be fine. If you start bleeding on any amounts, even spotting please go to the ER. Muscled cramp when dehidrated and right now you need all the fluids you can get, your uterus is starting to grow and that will make you cramp too, but please drink lots of fluids, and don't forget your prenatal vitamins, but for now, lay down.

I am not an expert; gas pains?? Gas tends to increase with pregancy(for everyone i know at least) If pains are bad and persistant check out possibility of ectopic. Other than that, you can't worry. Miscarrages at this stage are usually because embryo isn't forming properly. Nothing to do with you. Any way good luck (I remember sharp gas pains in early pregnancy)

I see alot of other women are saying this is normal and maybe it is but I never had this except when I had a tubal pregnancy is the cramping on only one side? do you have pain in your shoulder? if you do I would advise you to go to the ER and have a vaginal sonogram. But if you dont have these things congrats and I wish you well.

I would'nt want to scare you but some times sharp pains could be a sign of tubal pregnacy you might need to go to your nearest
emergency room to have a vaginal sono done because if you do'nt get checked out as soon as possible and this is the case
your tube could rupture and that could be very painful and harmful as well so please see a specialist at once.

A friend of mine had cramping during her pregnancy too. If this is your first child, especially, its normal. Your uterus is used to being one shape and size and it is being conformed into another. Check with a doctor to ease your mind. Stress isn't good for baby. Congrats! And happy pregnancy!
