Nothing.
What happens w/ regular soda is that mentos have a large surface area of a matte glaze to which the CO2 gas molecules can attach. and they sink to the bottom of the bottle, ejecting the soda out. If there's no gas to attach to the mentos, nothing happens.
This is a process called nucleation.

I don't think it'd work with flat soda, I think it's the fizzyness that causes the eruption. It's cool though. Other kind of neat things to try:

- Cut a grape in half and put it on a plate in the microwave, put one half middle up and one half middle down. Watch, if you did it right it should spark, then when you take it out the side that is middle up (I think, I haven't done it in awhile, check both sides to be sure) will have the insides completely burnt out of it. It's cool.

- Very fast and carefully throw a few lit bottle rockets into a 20 oz bottle and close it....also run from it. Sometimes you can get the bottle to explode, other times it just pops a hole into it.

- (neat but not destructive) turn out the lights go to a mirror and crunch down really hard on one of those mints with the green or blue specks in it....it sparks...

That's just a list of some of the fun and less destructive things my friends and I have done. But yeah the pop and mentos thing is fun.

I dont know if it will erupt or not. The mentos is merely letting off all of the carbonation in the coke at once. If there is no carbonation, I would assume there is no eruption, but I could be wrong.

A Brazillian died because he ate mentos with coke. I guess it just causes alot of gases to form.
