I need some help from you guys! I'm teaching Language Arts to juniors (16 years old) in high school, and I wanted to show them a movie that had a link with literature, poetry in particular. My first choice was Dead Poets' Society, but I've learned the senior year teacher uses it, and I don't want to step on any toes. So, anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

"Dangerous Minds" with Michelle Pfeiffer. Teaches inner city kids why poetry is important and shows how our modern arts use poetry every day in song. You could readily inter weave some of the same poetry and songs into your lessons to go along with movie.

Richard III with Ian McKellan. The story is spoken in Shakespearean English but it is updated to a 1930's time frame.

Prescreen the movie, however, since I think there is a brief scene of nudity, which doesn't advance the plot.

The only films I can think of are Poetic Justice with Janet Jackson & Tupac and Shakespeare in Love with Joseph Finnes & Gwynith Paltrow. Those may not be sutable for your class but that's all I can think of at the moment. OD'ed on food today. Sorry.

A Passage to India (book by E.M. Forster) was fantastic, almost as good as the book. It's not poetry, but maybe you can use it later for something.
