Being barefoot on carpet is VERY dirty!

When in the carpet business I would tell all the customers to have a pair of house sandals/shoes to ware on the carpet.
The oils in you feet is very bad for carpet! Not only bad but down right unclean...you may want to mention this to your friend. Bring a pair of house shoes to leave at your friends home, this would make your friend so happy! If and only if your friend gets educated....
Learn from the Oriental people who ware house shoes they are very smart people!

Why shouldn't be okay to go barefoot. Unless his house is like disgusting and you wouldn't dare put your foot down in the disgusting mess. If you dont feel comfortable to go barefoot, because you might think you have ugly feet, wear some kind of shoe where you have to wear socks.

Presumably your friend and his family are prepared for bare feet in their house. I know some people who keep a supply of house shoes for guests who prefer to keep their feet covered; your friend could reasonably offer to loan you a clean pair of socks if your being barefoot bothered either you or your host.

Most of the people I know focus their concern on the comfort of guests rather than hosts these days unless they have extremely strict house rules. At least if you're forewarned you can wear socks or carry a pair with you the next time you're likely to be there.

If your friend makes you take your shoes off, thus making you barefoot, then it is completely acceptable to go barefoot in your friends house b/c they are the ones who requested it.

It is fine to be barefoot in the house. If you have to take your shoes off then whatever is on your feet under your shoes either socks or barefeet is totally acceptable.

this is a dependant question. how good of a friend is it? how do his parents feel about your behavior as a whole? I would not mind if my friend came here barefoot. But i might be a little shocked if someone did the first time they ever came over.

Yeah. that's fine as long as your comfortable and you're feet aren't incredibly dirty. I do it when I'm with my friends at their houses unless I'm justing spending a few minutes or hours there, but if I know I'm going to be there for awhile and we're just hanging out, I take my shoes off and just leave them with the rest of my stuff.

Absolutely - I go barefoot as often as possible.

Seriously though - when in someone elses house, you should always respect their wishes - it may be a cultural thing, or he may just have very expensive carpet!
