Yes, their metabolism is faster. They use more energy for their body mass to maintain their body temperature because they lose heat faster than larger animals.

The larger the animal, the more spaces and volume and area the heart has to pump blood to. That means that it pumps faster because it recieves the blood back quicker after it has been distributed and it has to keep the pase up to circulate the blood without it building up in the heart after it returns.

becuase their bodys are smaller and have a smaller heart to get blood to a smaller body. its like having a fat hamster and a small one, the smaller one would move faster. sorry it that didnt help.

small animals have fast heart rates because their matabalism is much faster than other living beings. They have to keep moving or they die, thats a good and bad thing : )
