The East and West are divided into "conferences".
Too many poor teams to think one is better than the other. But the east conference has the advantage because their travel distance is not as great.

Well, divisions are split up into six sets of five teams. Three sets make up a Conference. There is an Eastern Conference, and a Western Conference. I think you meant to ask, "which conference is better in the NHL, east or west?" In my opinion, the Western is better, and the best division in that conference is the Northwest division as the lowest ranking team has only three points less than the highest ranking team and four teams from that division make up the 10, 9, 8 and 7 spots in the Western conference.

East and West have both very different styles of play, I think. But I gotta say the East is the better one.

I'd have to say East because I think those teams have more talent, and good young players. However, the first person who answered said that all the original six teams are in the east. That is wrong! Two of the original six teams are in the west: Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red WIngs

personally i beleve that the west is better physically, plus its a lot tougher to win your division, especially in the Northwest division, whenit comes to scoring and fancy plays the east has the west beat, i think it all depends on what aspect of the game you prefer, physical strong play or goal scoring. I think it also depnds on where you live, at least for me, i live in calgary, so really all i hear about is the west and have more knowledge about the west versuses the east, i dont know very much.

It is hard to tell, since teams don't meet every year. My feeling.....the West is best. The West has become the hard hitting, grind out play-off style hockey game in and game out. The average East game is more like an all-star game....plenty of scoring, but no hitting. The West travels way more (Washington doesn't even leave the EST the rest of the season) and way further. The East dreads a road trip through the west....San Jose, Anaeim, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Colorado. Travel and tought games.....the West is the best!!

you're perfect, yet contained in the West, the NW branch is perfect. The Pacific branch does have the celebs, ducks and Sharks, even though it also has the Coyotes and the Kings. it really is 3 reliable communities and a couple of undesirable communities. The NW branch although, has 4 truly reliable communities, and easily one undesirable crew (Oilers). And the Oilers will nevertheless be a discomfort contained in the neck to play. They nevertheless have Roloson, Hemsky, Stoll, and they were given Pitkanen, Souray and Penner. if you're making a crew out of the perfect gamers contained in the NW branch, and play it hostile to a crew with the perfect gamers contained in the Pacific branch, the NW branch crew will win. NW has extra large gamers: Kipper, Luongo, Iginla, Sakic, Stastny, Hejduk, Tanguay, Gaborik, Demitra, Souray, Hannan, Naslund, Sedin twins, Bieksa, Backstrom, and so on, and so on... NW has extra large gamers than the Pacific.
