Although Nintendo has hinted at the possibility of it being considered I don't think they have officially announced it yet. That being the case it will be more than a year before we will see it, I think.

It's don't think it will. The will is only backward compatiable with the GameCube and animal crossing is avaliable for GameCube. So you can play it on the wii as long as you have a Gamecube controller.
The DS also has Animal crossing and a bunch of other great games, that's mainly the reason why I'm buying that for christmas instead of a wii, which is currently lacking in good games right now.
