I am a caregiver who went through an unusual experince. This lady was a 102 years of age with no family, brothers sisters, or no children at all. She was by herself (so she claims). I took care of her for a day, bathed, dressed, and made lunch and dinner for her. She signed a contract with an agency that she would need me, however she refused to sign my time sheet when I was done for the day, so no pay! Who is responsible in making financial decision for the elderly if they have no one at all?

I had to drive 40 miles to picke her up from the hospital, take her home, and take care of her, and the agency didn't even tell me where she lived, or who would pay! I was stuck with a parking fee of $15, plus $80 in fees for taking care of her. What can I do to avoid this in the future from getting ripped off.

I have been ripped off by the elderly before when they don't want to pay, after I did services. How could I be tougher or serious on these elders that cheat me?

Well, first of all if you have proof that you were taking care of her then the agency is in turn responsible for paying you and making sure her insurance gets billed. I think you need to find a better agency to work for that will insure that you get paid.

your agency your with doesn't sound very good if they won't back there employees i would find a new agency. and make sure they handle that properly in the mean time you have to handle this on your own so before you begin with the senior you want the money ahead of time before you do this or get her to sign b4 hand .

Your agency needs to speak with their client about this, because as rewarding as this is you are not a volunteer, therefore you don't work for free (in this particular case). Don't get into an argument with her, try again next week and if she refuses again, find a different assignment.

does she have a power of attorney, i used to work with the elderly, and often times they were unable to sign, either someone else signed or sometimes i signed their names, than signed my own name after it, the agency is responsible for paying you.

you have to have it up with your boss if you work for a company that sends you out like that then they know how people are and you should be paid regardless if she signed your sheet and any kind of job money should not have been put out for parking and what not it should be reimbursed and milage should be considered in your pay check.
