Worse than the Black Sox scandal.

This is quite possibly the stupidest question in the baseball section of Yahoo Answers I have ever seen.

--1-- There is no scandal.

--2-- If there was, it is nowhere close to the Black Sox. This is about as asinine as comparing a purse snatcher to Adolph Hitler.

--3-- Howard was the superior athlete in 2006. He had more home runs, more RBI's, led his team to more victories (85 wins for the Phillies vs 83 wins for the Cardinals).

--4-- The arguement that says Pujols deserves it because he spent 3 weeks on the DL is asinine. If anything, it proves that Ryan Howard is the more durable and reliable player. Hell, if Bo Jackson never got injured, he might have been the greatest player of all time. Should we have given the MVP from 1992 to 1997 to Bo Jackson simply because he MIGHT have hit better than Barry Bonds IF he stayed healthy? Absolutely not.

--5-- Ryan Howard took a team that had given up at the trading deadline (trading away Lidle AND Abreu to the Yankees) and kept them in the hunt for the wild card single handedly. If Howard was not a Phillie, it is likely they would have finished dead last in the NL East, making Howard BY FAR more valuable than Pujols, who's team played in the weakest division in baseball, and likely would have won the division with or without him.

Bottom line...in 2006, Ryan Howard > Albert Pujols, and Ryan Howard is your 2006 NL MVP.
End.
Of.
Story.

i'm sorry yet Sarrarz or inspite of the actuality that is inaccurate. listed shrink than are the evaluation's each and every Stat will be Pujols then Howard. finished video games done 131, 139 so perfect there all of those stats Howard has done better video games. At bats 512 and 519 so because it truly in all fairness plenty even finished runs this season ninety 3, 80. In 8 a lot less video games he has 13 better useful runs. finished hits 152.132 finished bases 279,260 finished doubles 25,27 Triples 0,a million Homeruns 34,33 rbis 89,112 it truly is the purely stat very distinct in howard's pick avg 297,252 there are better stats that he wins yet you get the idea. he did all of this with 8 a lot less video games and by no ability on an explosive crew. If Pujols grew to develop into on the phillies i do not even pick to understand what kind of numbers he might want to placed up.

ok, A) nothing is worse than the Black Sox. There is proof they did what they did (with the possible exception of Shoeless Joe). B) Howard WAS the most valuable player. yeah yeah, you can give all the stats for why he's not, but lets face it, without Pujols, the Cards still have a damn good chance with all the other players they have, without Howard, the Phillies really don't, and to me, THAT"S the definition of MVP, the one person who without this guy, this team isn't anything.

Why is it a scandal? How does anyone know how each writer was going to vote? Maybe they intended to vote for Howard anyways and took the money because the opportunity was there. I know that I would and i bet you would too (its free money!). The MVP award is a highly subjective award and nothing more than a popularity contest. Every team that has a contender for any award constantly lobbies the voters (and payouts are probably more common than we would like to think). Do you really think that Morneau was the AL MVP or was it more an anti-Yankee vote (and how much money changed hands)? There are players that likely pay voters off too, remember they often sign contracts that pay huge bonus money if they win this or that award and affects future contract negotiations (hows that for incentive to pay off voters). Also depends on how you view the award. If it is the player that was the most valuable to his team then Howard deserved a slight edge, without him the Phillies are also rans and would not have stayed in contention for a playoff spot. If the merits are overall talent then Pujols has a slight edge so maybe he should have won. There are too many variables to get upset about an award, Pujols won the World Series and that is what mattered to him the most (and should for his fans as well).

Ryan Howard didn't deserve the MVP award this year
yeah he hit 9 more HR's and had 12 more RBI's, but pujols did miss 2 weeks with an oblique injury

also, Mr. Howard struck out a whopping 181 times (more then one per RBI)

Albert struck out less than .5 times per RBI. In fact, Pujols had one more strikeout (50) then he did HR.

AND he won a gold glove. Mr. Howard committed 8 more errors (14)

And since nobody on the East Coast bothered to watch the series, the play where he threw off his back and still got the guy? Priceless.

And while we're talking cardinals getting screwed, how about Yadi for Gold Glove.

50% gunned down with a pitching staff that barely tops out at 90.

He got Jose Reyes with Suppan delivering.

If that's not worth the gold glove, then I don't know what is.

If it's not a scandal, It should be. But lets face it. If Howard would not have been picked, certain people would start complaining. Howard did have good numbers, just not MVP numbers. So the choice was more political than anything. The truth of the matter is that Howard can have his MVP trophy, but it's really got to be a bad feeling when he and everybody else knows that he really didn't deserve it.

If he missed part of the season that means he is not as durable has Howard. You can not use that has a reason for he did not deserve it.
