I went through 3 hurricanes in Florida the last 2 years. I was without electricity for each one for a long time. I had a coleman stove. Luckily, I had friends who had gas heaters so I could go over to their house and take a shower. Everybody got together and cooked up or barbecued all the food they had in the fridge. I didn't spend too much time in my house, because after the hurricanes, the heat and humidity is unbearable and without electric you cannot run even a fan, unless you have a generator and I didn't. If you are lucky, and for some of the time I was, a friend who has a generator will invite you over for a little free air conditioning.

I lived without electricity for just over a year. We had things like kero stoves and fridges (which are painfully unreliable). Had to hand wash everything and bath in the creek. During the evenings we would usually read but not for too long. We always went to bed really early. Without power it is very labourious for mother. As my grandmother said Electricity is a wonderful thing. I would hate to do it again.

at first the drastic change would be very difficult but people adapt and I would learn to deal with it...it would be a cool thing to try out...no power for 30 days or so....it would show everybody how much they are attached to their electrical possessions....and how silly it is.....good question

If it happened during the day, I would read. If it happened at night before bedtime, I would think about what my plans are for the weekend and if I had spending money, what would I like to get.
