After biting my nails for 20 years, I had nice acrylics put on 8 weeks ago. I love em. I haven't once been tempted to chew/pick em off to get at my nails. Just make sure you don't get the cheap ones and go to a good salon.

Tape a first-aid plaster to the end of each finger. When the urge, or habit, to bite your fingers arises, you will have a pause for thought as you begin to chew on a fabric strip instead of your nails.
Alternatively, if you don't want to walk around looking like you've cut all ten fingers (because people will be looking at your plasters), apply something nasty to your fingertips. Something you don't like the taste of. For me, I would put mustard on mine, since I don't like it. The same theory works, because when you begin to chew, you'll get a horrible taste and realise what you're doing.
The main thing about chewing your nails is that it's probably 90% a subconscious thing. You don't realise what you're doing until you've already started. What you need to do to stop is break the pattern, and force a barrier into the routine.
Hope this helps
Regards, Liam

Unfortunately, I'm an expert at this question. After biting my nails for 35 yrs. I added up how much money I was wasting on putting on acrylic tips, I thought about all of the germs that I was putting in my mouth (I handle cash all day) and thought about how embarrassed I was everytime I had to meet a good looking man with my nails looking jacked up (I hated to shake their hands).

So, I taught myself how to crochet (it's real hard to bite your nails when you're hands are busy.

The last time that I put on acrylic tips I left them on until I had a decent amount of meat on the ends. Once I removed the tips I put on Sally Hansen Diamond Strength EVERYDAY!!! Once a week I would take it all off, soak my fingers in warm soapy water and massage oil (baby oil or olive oil) into my cuticles, rinse that off and put some more of that Sally Hansen on.

By pampering yourself, you are less inclined to bite them. And by finding things to keep your hands occupied, you are well on your way to achieving your goal.

You will notice an improvement IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Good luck in your endeavor!!! ;

Just stop. If you hate it that much don't do it any more. It worked for me and I've been a constant nail biter up until about two months ago. And that nail varnish stuff is useless. I actually grew to quite like the stuff.

Have you tried lemon juice yet? That's how I quit but it doesn't work for everyone. Just sick your fingers in lemon juice once a day, and the sour taste will keep your fingers away from your mouth. Also they make bad tasting nail polishes but I haven't ever seen them. Good luck!

i got acryllics done - they are very hard and so difficult to bite - pity the teeth and also, they taste pretty yucky.
in the meantime it will give your nails underneath chance to grow.
also, because your nails look so pretty you wont be tempted to bite them. it takes about 3 weeks to break a habit, and acryllics last a while longer than that. once i got the acryllics off, i had manicures everyweek to pamper myself so that i wont be tempted to bite them, now that they were looking so pretty!
Good Luck

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

Try by putting something nasty tasting on your nails, and then you will taste it and pull your hands away
if this doesnt work trying wearing rubber gloves while you are at your house or just winter gloves.

This might help---
You would get fewer germs in your mouth from licking your ANUS than from biting your nails!!!
Gross, but completely TRUE....
Think about it next time you go to stick the nails in your mouth.

You can put hot sauce or something that tastes yucky so that if you bite your nails it can remind you that you put something in it so you wouldn't have to bite your nails again.
