When I click the file and tell it to delete, I get a popup saying it can't because it is open elsewhere, when it is doing no such thing.

Reboot your computer to terminate the process that has a handle to the file. Then you should be able to delete the file.

If that doesn't work, there are more sophisticated methods to determine exactly what has the handle open, but rebooting is simple, and takes less than a minute, so do that first. Later you can move on to handle.exe from sysinternals.com, but the results are hard to interpret if you are not familiar with all of the precesses and servces and system files on yor computer.

Try waiting and trying it again.

If it still fails after several attempts, reboot and try again.

If it STILL fails, boot into safe mode (F8 before bootup) and try it there.

If it still fails, then I can't help much then. You'd have to create yourself a Windows PE disk and boot off that.

Just make sure the file is NOT a system file you need!

Probably your best option - reboot your computer in safe mode and do it from there. Or you can hit Ctrl + Alt + Del to start the task manager and see if you can close the program that uses that file from there.

Try removing the file while in safe mode.

What you can do is close all the programs that you have open and then try deleting the film again. That's what i do and it works for me almost all the time.

good luck
