There is no cure, it's like allergies, you must be proactive and prep the body for the antagonist before you are exposed. That being said, I have surmised that in order to prevent a hangover, one must understand what a hangover is in the first place....

After drinking, the alcohol saps us of not only water, but other nutrients as well (potassium etc.). The loss of these nutrients causes us to have headaches, nausea and that all-around lousy feeling. So.....one must restore nutrients or add to what the body already posesses similar to chemoprophylaxis. The loss of nutrients is also why just drinking just water doesn't work. Gatorade won't do it either since all the sugar in it contributes to the dehydration. I have found that by drinking PediLyte or a similar brand, (a drink made for infants and toddlers when they have nausea and diarrhea) you can supplement your Vitamin K (potassium) and vitamin B 12 and B6 supply. This drink is similar to an IV of Lactated Ringers that you may recieve in a hospital when dehydrated. Do this before retiring for the night (or day) and you should see a significant reduction in hangover symptoms.

Hangover

Hangovers can be very annoying and painful. Drinking a lot of water is said to be very effective in curing a hangover. Some would even recommend eating a beaten raw egg. Other traditional cures are eating raw cabbage and rosemary.

That's My Best Answer!

No, drinking water (or water and squash) is the only way. Before you go to bed after a binge, drink at least half a pint of water. It`s the dehydration from the alcohol that causes the hangover. Keep some by your bedside as well, or in the bathroom/loo,and when you get up to have a pee have a drink.

I've read all the posts so far and agree with lots of the things that have been said. However, I would always drink lots of water before imbibing as well as after. The water dilutes your intake of alcohol which means you are more aware of the effect it is having on you earlier on, before it's too late and 'feeling rough' the next morning becomes inevitable.
I also have to agree that, whilst it is not the healthiest thing to do, a small amount of alcohol in the morning does seem to help (provided you are not an alcoholic).
A large number of my friends would suggest that a fry-up is not the best idea and I can vouch for that.
Keep drinking the water but preferably not as a mixer.
Happy socialising.

Eat a lot before during and after booze. I have never got really legless at a wedding. The only cure and I have tried them all, is a hair of a dog - a temporary measure, but worth trying to get through to the next day. And learn how much you can drink.

Eat while you are drinking- don't drink on an empty stomach. Have at least a snack when you are drinking lots.

Afterwards, plenty of water and a breakfast such as egg and bacon or baked beans and egg on toast and a glass of orange juice. Keep drinking water. It's the dehydration that causes the headache.

After reading the poor excuses for answers, check this puppy out..... ok it may be a little more effort but still...

1. Take 400mg ibuprofen with your first drink (thats two tablets - 16 tablets cost 48p at boots)
2. drink away..... (moderation and sticking to one drink is the key, but i'm no saint....)
3. Make sure you eat a fat enriched meal b4 you sleep
4. Take 400mg ibuprofen with at least 750ml water as you go to sleep (pint and a half)
5. Drink orange juice as you wake up....

Now for the science bit....

the ibuprofen has an inhibitory effect on the kidneys and stops them exceting so much water (and electrolytes). take before and after drinking is the key. The fat soaks up free alcohol in the plasma stopping the re-drunk effect when you drink the next day (i mean drinking water). The effect of the alcohool on the liver means glucose levels are depleted and your blood sugar drops making you feel rotten (its actually the worst part of the hangover), orange juice (fructose) will sort this right out as it doesnt need insulin to convert it.....

Happy drinking.......

2 co-codamol dissolved in warm water, 1 slice of toast, 1 mug of tea and 1 hour back in bed will cure the worst hangover.

Stay drunk. Not paralytic, but just drunk enough to prevent the alcohol from leaving your system.
Of course your liver will hate for it in the long term.
