I'm 6 feet and I didn't have many problems. Sometimes it was hard to get the posture correct and to get my feet in the right position but I danced just as good as the other girls.

A tall dancer is less likely to find a male partner capable of lifting or catching her in a Pas de Deux. You would have to be a soloist and have fantastic technique otherwise no-one would place you. It would be very difficult placing a very tall dancer in the Corps de ballet as many of them are around 5 4.
As dancers are now generally taller than even thirty years ago, there is still hope, for the future of tall ballerinas.

yes they can. I have a girl in my class that is 6 feet tall and she's great at ballet. She's one of the best dancers I think in the studio. You just have to have enough of muscles (if you do pointe) and be able to get the posture right ( which shouldn't be too hard) and you'll do great!

You can be a great ballet dancer, but because you are tall, you might not be placed in ballets.

For one, you will weigh more naturally because you are taller, and normally the taller the heaver.

Another thing, you won't be able to do your turns and jumps very well on a stage. There is only a limited amount of space, and you will be taking up more room.

I know plenty of tall people who are ballerinas, but me being 5'2, I can say it has been a benefit to me being shorter.

Well they might tower over a lot of the other dancers so there roles might be a little more limited as it might be harder for a male dancer to lift a taller female dancer off the floor in some of the dual moves. They could certainly still dance though and they could look just as graceful as their co-dancers.

Absolutely... No question. The only drawback is you may be so tall, you'll have trouble becoming a principal. In Pas De Deux, they expect the man to be significantly taller--to tower over the women significantly. And they expect the woman to have small Barbie doll feet so that when she goes en Pointe, she doesn't go up TOO high. A man should be a large protective force over the lady. She must look up to see her man.

But damn it all, just dance....

Positively.

As with any dancer, everyone has stature issues that they must work around, no one has the ideal body for dancing (atleast not in their own mind).

However, I think tall dancers have beautiful lines and forms and their extension is lovely on stage.

If you want to dance, do not let your height hold you back, use it to your advantage!

There are certain hinderances due to height in ballet, mainly relating to placement in shows, ect. However, dependent on how flexible you are, leg length ect., being tall can be of tremendous value, especially in relation to kicks and extentions. I am about 5'0 and in ballet, and I have no problem with anything except I need longer legs to perform better extensions.
