You can major in whatever you like as long as you fufill (succesfully) your pre-requisites.

Most med schools will accept you with 90 credit hours but I believe its prefferable to have a degree, and of course, a good gpa (naturally).

Med schools actually like people who are "well-rounded". Most applicants are bio majors and thats fine, but when they see an applicant who is majoring in say, Medieval Science or something, then it looks a bit better, as it stands out from the rest.

I'm an Anthropology major fufilling my pre-reqs right now in the hopes of attending Johns Hopkins or Baylor.

Hope this helps!! :)

No.

In fact, "pre-med" usually isn't a major at most undergrad institutions. "Pre-med" is simply a course of study that says "I'm trying to go to med school." Most people who end up in med school have BS degrees in Chem or Bio, or BA degrees where they majored in Chem or Bio.

BTW, 1/3 of my pledge class was pre-med in that first freshman semester. There were 2 left at the end of that first semester, and none (out of 24) made it to med school. I wish you luck -- practicing medicine is very tough work.

From what I know most people that get into med school already have a degree, in what I'm not sure, but something that pertains to medicine.

Your best bet to find out for sure would be to contact the school you are interested in for med school and find out what their requirements are. That way you know for sure. Good luck!

The answer is "usually." However, some medical schools have admitted students at the end of their third year of college provided they have taken all their pre-med requirements.
