Most of those guys and gals are washed up out of their prime or too old to get any real publicity stunt out of this kinda thing. A few of them might be doing it for the recognition, but the rest of them could probably care less about fame because they most likely know better than to believe they'll get it back. Here's the thing though, ya don't see any big time popular celebrities doing any hands-on work or anything that doesn't pay back or save cash for them. Oprah doesn't even do that. You'll notice that with "philanthropist celebs" there are only a select few charities that they direct their 'contributions' toward. And you'll notice a commonality with all of them. In some way or another they are all related on a corporate level, and someone close to the celebrity is already in the business end of that company. It's 'cuz when the public foolishly believes they are being charitable they get more ratings and more props and therefore more cash. They write off those itty-bitty donations on taxes and then their friends or family in the business can get it back to them with interest by finding some corporate deal or discount an exemption somewhere, or putting it all back in another foundation that's owned or run by the celebrity. They don't give anything up, and they don't donate money, they let charities hold their chump change for a while so they can go look good in front of the camera.
It's a cyclic money trail that always winds up fattening their purse.
It's a "hold this dolla pop my colla, Holla!" deal. And they always get it back

They only do it for good publicity. Why do people only volunteer around the holidays? Homeless people gotta eat all year not just November and December.

Some may care - others no. It's good publicity.

Good publicity. If they really cared they would do it year round not just on thanksgiving.
