Within the first year you start your period is it normal to not have another one for 5 months?

Five months is completely normal. If you feel stressed or anxious about this, then see a doctor you trust for reassurance.

Periods settle down for the vast majority of women after about 1-3 years. Even if you don't settle down into a regular rhythm, that still can be normal for you. If after three years you are still unpredictable with no regular cycle, I would then see a doctor. Even at that stage, there will probably be nothing wrong.

Various activities in life can affect your period, such as vigorous sporting or atheletic activities, and stress.

To give you my story, I started by period at the age of 14 and it was NEVER predictable or normal. I went on the pill at 18, simply because after 4 years, I still did not have a regular pattern. When I was 22, I stopped having periods for 9 months, yet there was no possibility of pregnancy. After a series of tests, it was finally determined that this was normal for me. I am now 30, and my period is still only regulated by taking the pill. While this is not 'normal' in the big scale of things, it is normal for me.

Yes it can be normal to not have another period for five months. It takes your body a year or more to regulate itself. My daughter went three months between her first and second period.

Your body will follow it's own clock for your whole life, unless you are on the pill. Long intervals between periods is completely normal for the first year. As long as you haven't had sex, don't worry about it.

Yes, it can because your body is adjusting to the change to womanhood.

When I started mine I didn't get the second period until a year later.

well ppl are diff. that happend to my friend but hers was longer. it depends cuz if you go swimming w/ her period that can cause it to miss for a couple of months cuz it screws your whole cycle up. but other that that all i can think of is that your body isnt used to it. good luck though

sometimes that happens but it isn't that normal. I would get checked out by a gynecologist just to make sure there isn't anything abnormal going on inside you with your female organs.
