Yes, they are a good kick up the backside for most students and make them realise that they can't just blag their way through the real thing without putting in some time and effort into revision.

Yes and No,
It's true that they give children an idea of exam conditions and what sorts of questions will be asked, but my experience from my own GCSEs was that mock papers tended to originate from the school and didn't have the same format as the examination boards, indeed if you were lucky to get a past paper from last years exams for example, the style would change slightly and it can be a total distraction because it's not what you expect. And you are bound not to do as well as you should. Mock exams should have the same continuaty as the real exams and the examinations board should really come up with a mock and a real exam, rather than rely on what ever a school has at its disposal.

three things spring to mind.
1) So you get a feel for the exam environment.
2) so you can see how you would have done as you take the test taken by the previous year in their actual exams.
3) So your teachers can see if you have been put into the correct tier for your exams, if you are in intermediate and cream your mocks you could be put up which gives you the opportunity to get better grades

The most obvious benefit is a taste of the exam environment but also the grades achieved can be used for the real exams if a child is ill or unable to take the exam in extenuating circumstances. In such cases it has been known for the mock grade to be used instead. The results can also determine which level of paper a student will take (such as foundation or intermediate).

Yes, they are very important - could be you final grade. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you are unable to take the final exam then your mock result could be used as representative of your final grade. On the whole, the mock exams are used as an indication of what you are capable of so could also be used as an appeal against your final result. Don't treat these exams lightly - they are important and should be approached with respect.
Good luck and study hard - it's worth it!

Yes they are a good way of seeing how much you have learned and what you need to improve on.
But everyone does worse in the mock exam maybe because they work harder after the poor grade they get.

Yes, they let both you and your teachers know how you are doing, whether you are on track to reach your target grades. If not it gives them time to help you fix the problem before the real exams.
Also, they are good practice so that you are familiar with taking exams, it reduces the stress on the day of the real exams.

Yes. I did badly in my mock biology exam, so I was able to study harder and got a grade 1 O'Level in the actual exam.
They are definitely worth it, you can see where you need improving.
