We consider black to be so pessimistic because its the void of something. In color terms- black is the absence of color where as white is the combination of all colors in the spectrum.
Black can be thought of as "sexy"- such as the idea that every woman should own a "little black dress". Most of the time, though, its just considered to be too dark a color. It doesn't bring warmth to a room (think of the difference between pastel yellow and black...a yellow room brings warmth and light into it where as a black room would make it look smaller and darker). Its all in perception but, most of it is ingrained psychologically now.

I think its all a matter of opinion. I have black sheets and where black clothes (not all black, but black all the same). Now to paint my room all black, i won't do because it is a dark color...but thats not to say it is bad...

It closes down the room if you paint it black...makes it smaller.

Black clothes...tend to me us look smaller...so the older you get...the more sleek black you wear..
..........don't forget black lace and black fishnet stockings are always in style.

It's a dark color never allowing light to shine through. Dark moods and Bogey men moving about in pitch black rooms makes one nervous. In movies no joy is ever found in dark rooms only bad omens.

It's NOT!! It's others perspective ... thats all. I wear black when I want to feel slim and cool. I like ladies in black nylons because they emit an air of mystery. And, speaking of ladies ... BLACK is BEAUTIFUL!!
