i aggree with Phil when he says "Democracy is a very over-used and incorrectly used term
What happens in many Western countries and the USA is called an OLIGARCHY and a PLUTOCRACY.
These are not true democracies - until 'we' can have a real democracy, we cannot export anything but a lie. "
ultimatly, help is for those that want it, not those that need it.....

After ww2 there was about 20 democratic countries now there is about 120. We cant force democracy but we can force out communism and dictators. When people learn what a it is they realize its better then the alternative. In Iraq its the people who wanna protect the islamic caliphate. Its also a combination of criminal gangs and in fighting between the religious factions. Iraqis are fighting there own there not united against the USA.

Yes. But not by force (no, not THAT force, Luke Skywalker, the kind of force that comes from generals and diplomats). Democracy can be exported: 1) by example, and 2) by capitalism.
By Example:
Ronald Reagan said America was the "shining city on the mountaintop." Isaiah prophesied the chosen people were to "be a light unto the nations." And Obi-Wan-Kinobe taught Luke the power of the force by showing his peace with it at the hand of Darth Vader (yes, Star Wars, again). Leading by example is tried and true. It is no mistake that the students at Tianenmen Square determined to take a stand against Communism at the same time the Internet was erupting on college campuses worldwide. Those students saw the personal freedoms supported by Democracy as they looked through the windows of the .coms, .nets and .orgs of the democratic West, and they demanded the same. As citizens of other states see democracy in action, they yearn for it.
By Capitalism
See the freedom fighters of the 1980s wearing Michael Jackson shirts and Sony Walkmans. Even those who profess to despise democracy feast on the fruits of its capitalist markets. And as middle classes grow, even in places like Iran, they will want more. More for themselves, their families, and their communities. They will want opportunity. They will ask for it, then they will take it. As we told a King named George, a few years ago...I believe it was "Take a hike!" (or something like that), other people desiring the opportunities of democracy will say the same to their despots, monarchs, oligarchs and fascists.

A great man once said "Freedom must come from within, not from without". It is the natural process of things for the democratic, or at least more liberal and fair, aspects of politics to develop somewhere along the line. It cannot be forced, it must be chosen and nationally supported.
Of course "democracy" is a misnomer, as really what everyone mean is a "Republic"...a Democracy simply means popular majority rule, a true Republic is a place where there is a central, protected constitution that preserves the rights of all those within it...which is funny, as now both major American parties stand for the complete opposite, more or less, of what they're meant to. You can't get more un-Republican, than a Republican.

doubt it; unless the others wanted it and understood it as a pure and true system of fair government. Wonder why it's not working in Iraq?? Maybe we're not trying to export a true and fair democracy.

Democracy is not for export but for people to choose whether it can match their culture. Islam and democracy is very hard to mix just like what is happening in Iraq - ther will be an endless turmoil.

Exporting "democracy". is something you do in deeds rather than by killing 150,000!
America and its messages! "We want you to be a democracy, so we are going to invade your country and MAKE you have one!"
Ironic as we are not even a Democracy! We are a Representative Republic!
I love it, we are going to kill your people so you can be free!! HUH!!

I think it is painfully apparent that we can't.
You can influence, but to try and occupy and transform that country into a democracy is something neocons have failed at miserably in many nations.

do you really think America is a democratic country?
C mon!!!
That is totally bull.
the problem is America is NOT a democratic country, but gets involved in everything even if it doesn´t concern America.
Live and let live.
Stop telling other people how to live or how to act or how to fight. This is a free world and America is not free at all.
That´s why every body that is not American hates Americans.
You always think you have the last word.
