I've tried using a turbo controller but that doesn't work, and i've tried doing it manually but it seems impossible.

Is that the one where you have to keep pressing circle?If so then that's what I did, I think also if you can't do it it doesn't matter if you fail the story still goes on with a different ending, I think at least. Also I'm guessing you mean MGS 1? I think you get tortured in every game...

I just lay the controller down on a hard surface, hold the controller stable with one hand, and use the finger on the other hand to tap like crazy.
