Why do people feel a need to curse when they are angry? I'm writing a research paper and would like to know what other people think.

To a very large degree it is how one is raised. The home environment teaches us how to react in given situations. If we see our parents lose it and start cussing we learn from them.

I was told by a doctor that when a person curses it is because they are actually angry at themselves more than anyone or anything else. The profanity helps to release the anger.

I think people curse because they are told when they are young that curse words are bad. When they are angry, people curse because they know curse words are bad and they feel like rebelling and doing something that may aggravate others. If people stopped telling people that curse words were bad i think that people wouldn't curse.

Because they associate cursing with something bad....and they want to express that they feel badly about the whole thing!

Its a bad form of anger expression due to the lack of a decent vocabulary.
One can usually express anger more cuttingly with other more meaningful words..

a curse is a way to instantly release the sudden surge of emotion. that hits, whena stress full situation comes about.

hum, what an ungly habit !for me it came through several generation's of cusser's but i really am trying to break the habit it is terrible .make you look foolish poor commuication skill's cause's people to cuss
