Perhaps the most selfish thing anybody can do is to have a baby because they can...... . and because they have some personal notion of "perpetuating themselves" You hear people saying that "children bring you this, or bring you that (special feeling, or knowledge or understanding, or satisfaction. on and on and on) how in the world can you tell another person what it will bring him or her to procreate? What happens if you never wanted a child in the first place, and you listen to a person who says "when you have a child you'll feel different"? You do it and you DON'T feel different. You do what? Send it back? People are always trying to tell other people how they will "feeeeel" if they just do this or that. - based on what? based on the way THEY feel. It doesn't work that way because without question the majority of the rest of that six billion people out there do NOT feel like you, or think like you, or have the same life situation as yours. Why not? because we are individual human beings, and not one big ant colony.
The religionists are always popping off about "God's orders" to be fruitful and multiply. Dang, that may have been a good idea when the world was young and there were one or two humans in existence. But we have been fruitful and multiplied to the point that we have now destroyed the wonderful ecological balance of the Natural World, and are responsible for the continuing destruction of the natural habitat of all the other creatures of this planet. Even as we speak we're devastating the resources of this world, through our own greed, and our belief that somehow we are more important than anything else.
I think that we are now all warring and fussing and fighting with one another because we've finally bucked the rules to the limit, and Mother Nature herself has had enough of us. We humans have long been a cancer in the body of this planet, and I think that her "Immune System" if you will, has kicked in gear, and she is going to cure herself of her cancer one way or the other - even if that means getting rid of every dang last one of us LOL> Hey, why not? Give the cockroaches a shot at the top spot for a change. How could they do a lousier job than the humans have?

Sounds like you are at the point where "someone is expecting things out of you"..Let's hope you do not reproduce with that attitude....that would be one messed up child. Having a wanted child is having unconditional love no matter what. My child isn't angry like you (thank God), the only thing I expect out of him is to remember the values and morals I have instilled into him. And who says that just because you adopt the child won't end up being selfish? It is all in how you raise them. You make it sound like the greatest gift of all (a child of your own) is like having a car that after so many years it is going to need repair! Get a life and perhaps some anti-depressants.

Adoption is good.
But having children is a sacred duty in marriage.
World starvation is not really because of overpopulation, but because of our poor systems of production, distribution and sharing.
Your opinion and other people's ideas concerning abortion, family planning... are only emegency remedies for our present world in lack of love and knowledge. The more we concentrate on increasing love and knowledge, the more we will be able to solve the problems on earth radically and decently.
Yes, we are rational beings, we must think and learn to rise as the highest creatures in the whole universe.

Not necessarily. Sure, there is overpopulation throughout much of the world, but if people stop having children altgether, then the human race has no future once those currently living have all died.

No.
Still lots of room and lots of food.
If so much food was not dumped there would be plenty for the starving countries.
Having a baby does not take anything away from anyone else.
Also, having children teaches parents all about love.

Having an abortion is selfish. Giving birth keeps our genes in the gene pool.
