I dont really understand the question...
In todays society it is more than necessary, as an effort to prevent unwanted pregnancies that result in the death of the baby due to abortion.
Idealy abstenence would be best for those who are not married or not committed to the realization that sex will at some point result in a child.
However, even those who are married have the right to put off having more children they might not be able to afford, or that their marriage might not be able to stay together for.
I dont agree with hormonal birth control, simply because controling your body with synthetic chemicals for any reason causes more harm than good. Chemicals are toxins, and our bodies are made to function a certain way for a reason, its not natural to control the a womans cycle with high, or any, dosage of synthetic hormones.
However i do agree that people who partake in sexual activities without the desire to ability to raise children, should be on some form of bith control, no matter what kind that is.
Obviously birth control isnt necessary in the sense that many people for eons have survived, avoided pregnancy, and thrived without it.
But I still keep the stand that today it is needed. For many many reasons. But foremost being the protection of babies who would otherwise be aborted.

I think it's very necessary, and we should do a better job of teaching it to high school students.
Sexually transmitted diseases are everywhere. Odds are you know someone that has one, or has had one. And you can't tell just by looking who has one, so a barrier method of birth control should be considered every time.
Also, the world is overpopulated as it is. Mankind is outstripping the planet's ability to renew its resources. Overpopulation is a major factor in pollution, global warming, and poverty everywhere. In my opinion, the best thing that could happen to this world would be to have the net population in the world decline by 1% each year for the next 30 years. That would let economies adjust slowly, but it would have a major change on the population over time. Global warming would decline, because there would be fewer people using fossil fuels. Pollution would decline for the same reason. It's tempting to think that wars may even decline, but I doubt that - there have been plenty of those around for too many years.

If you don't want to have kids then yes it is. Best method depends on your sexual practices. If you are in a monogamous relationship the pill or the new implant (Implanon??) is what I would recommend. I've never done an implant but I've always heard really good things from people who were on the Norplant. I don't know anyone who is on the new implant but it's supposed to be better. Condoms don't allow for as close of an intimacy for couples. If you are not in a monogamous relationship then I would recommend using the pill and a condom to protect against STDs as well as pregnancy. There can be no worse feeling in the world than not knowing who the father of your child is. I don't recommend the patch because I hated the way it left little squares all over my body and it's also dangerous. I don't recommend inserts (such as Nuva-Ring) because I found they made sex rather inhibiting, I was very aware of my insert and I wasn't able to enjoy sex as completely. I've heard way to many horror stories about the shot (gaining ghastly amounts of weight, periods that never end, mood swings from hell), and IUD's (My sister's started to come out and she said it was more painful than giving birth) to ever want to try them. Right now I'm back on the pill and I'll probably stick with it for a while, but I am considering trying the Implanon. Nothing but abstinence is 100% though, I have a friend whose little brother was a condom, birth control, vasectomy baby. Always choose your birth control option to what suits your lifestyle.

Necessary to what?? Birth control is to stop you getting pregnant.
That type which you take depends on the person and whether they are allergic to the pill etc, have high blood pressure or are over weight.

If you don't want kids, the ONLY fool proof method is sterilization. Everything else is chancy.
