Change a lot

1. Implement the Fair Tax. This would crush China economically. This would bring jobs back to the US in droves.

2. Insist Congress declare war on Iran. Make them a parking lot. Then go to Syria. They have it coming.

3. Spy on our enemies. Tell civil liberties people to flip off.

4. Have anyone who leaks classified information arrested and tried for treason.

5. Remove all media from the battlefield.

6. End welfare for able bodied people.

7. Privatize Social Security. Anyone who does not want to go forfeits their benefits. Do the same for Medicare.

8. Push to ban drug companies from advertising on tv, etc. It is creating demand that is not needed.

The first thing I would do is allow the military to finish the job they started in both Iraq and Afghanistan. No more "nation-building"... get in, give the terrorists and insurgents the chance for their 72 virgins, and get it over with. While that was bring done, I would require the Iraqi military/police force to step up to the plate and begin to train and take on responsibilities more than what they are currently.
I would then submit a plan to decrease the welfare rolls even more. My plan would be to determine the minimum income required to support a family of whatever size in each area, and require each adult on the System to get some kind of gainful employment (regardless of what it was, or how much it made, or how many hours a week) and pay them the difference. That would get people working, and would lower the amount of money that people would be getting. An alternative would be to send them to school (paid for by a combination of state and federal dollars) to learn a specific trade (electrician, CNA, etc.) and then help them find a job in their chosen field... and pay them as outlined above until they are making more than what Welfare would pay them.
Another MAJOR change I would send to the Congress is to give all of the vets back the benefits they have been guaranteed and then denied due to cut backs in the defense department. Every member of the military is promised certain things as they join whatever branch of the service they enter. As time goes on, the VA begins denying them those very same benefits. That needs to change.
The last thing I would change (that I am going to talk about here) is that I would build the military back to it's 1980's glory. Our men and women are being asked to do more and more with less and less. IN the 1980's we had the tools, and the manpower to take care of anything that came along the pike. In the 1990's, the power was cut back to it's lowest since the WWII cut backs. I would bring it back.

Short answer....there'd be a lot less people getting away with the stuff they do. I believe in capital punishment. Start executing these people who rape and murder little girls/boys, and those that do the same to adults (but the child killers would be executed more painfully). There is NO place in society for people like that. Treason would be punishable by hanging, just like in the good old days of our country's youth (are you listening NY Times?). Less money wasted on stupid studies of cow farts and sheep sex. And I'd get screw drivers and toilet seats at WalMart for $3 instead of $3000. Obey our laws or get the hell out....that's enough for now....short answers are best. :)

@timjin: It doesn't matter if you live in Canada, Britain, or on the other side of the world. You can still pretend you are.
@mg:

"As President of the United States I would work towards:

1. Getting our troops out of Iraq"
In steps or an all-out withdrawal?

"2. Resolving Illegal Immigration"
Good, but can't you be more specific?

"3. A Flat Tax Initiative"
Hmm... I guess I could go with that.

"4. Building a Cross Continental Canal on the Border between the United States and Mexico"
You what?! Do you have any idea how much that'll cost (and how stupid it seems)?

"5.Categorizing Identity Theft as a Terrorist Activity"
A bit harsh, unless you could prove it actually was.

"6. Repealing the Patriot Act"
Some of it or all? Because there's some of it that I feel shouldn't be repealed.

"7. Resolving the Drug War by legalizing marijuana and hash"
You mean not just medical marijuana, but an all-out legalization? Okay, but if anything happens, you brought it on yourself.

"8. Finding and utilizing alternative and Innovative sources of energy."
Okay.

"9. Imposing higher taxes on corporations that outsource jobs
10. Giving tax incentives to corporations that create better job opportunities for Americans.
11. Encouraging innovation and creativity in government and the private sector."
Meh...

As for me, I'd tell the FBI, CIA, DHS, etc. to keep adapting to terrorism. Geopolitically, I believe that we can't exactly go isolationist in these times due to an ever-present threat of terrorism. This is a time where we need the support of our allies if we want to succeed in the War on Terrorism; while we should patch up anything that we managed to damage diplomatically, we must also not kiss anyone's feet in the process whenever we can. We should attempt to not support nations that support terrorism. Also, we should *not* pull out of Iraq immediately. If we made this mess, the Iraqis shouldn't be forced to clean it up (or at least the majority of it). Their armed forces should be trained so that they can defend themselves adequately. The Iraqi infrastructure should be fully operational.
Illegal immigration... First, we need to deport all illegal immigrants and build that wall. In order to pay for that, we have to rebuild what needs to be rebuilt in our economy and do something about the pork-barrel spending, and possibly find a foreign company that's willing to help in it's construction (though I wouldn't be that desperate). Second, we must help Mexico rebuild its economy so that it's people won't have to come over here illegally. I don't want us to be too intrusive, but at the same time we should help advance their nation to a status at least higher than their current situation.
My energy views are that, as I previously pointed out, we should encourage alternative energy producers to keep at it, along with alternative energy R&D. We have to wean ourselves off of oil eventually; now's an excellent time if any.
While I suppose legalization of medical marijuana is okay, outright legalization of weed and hash is too libertarian for me. Basically, look at my responses for everything else.
Of course, this scenario would also have to take away any inexperiences I have, boost my age to at least 35, and not make Americans want to throw me out once thay hear about me (my Administration after the event doesn't count, but...) If no, I'd be scared sh!tless if it happened.
