The periods you experience when you are on the pill are not 'real' periods so do the rules of pregnancy tests apply in the same way (i.e. take from first day of missed period)?

I have symptoms suggesting that I am pregnant but I am not sure if they are psychological simply because the thought of pregnancy has consumed me for the last couple of weeks. I am on the pill (I missed one last month) but I really want to know if I am pregnant or not. My period is due in three days but I was wondering that, if these are only 'blood withdrawals' and not 'real periods' would it still pay to wait a few days and see if I get my period or could I take an early pg test now for ease of mind.

If I did take one now and it was negative, what are the chances that the reading is false?

Also, as I am on the pill, could I still be pregnant even if I begin my period on time?

Hope you can help :)
Please no silly or judgmental answers.

They are real periods. You simple never released the egg. Your body doesnt know the difference. It still goes through the same cycle, minus the egg. The pill replaces the hormones that allow the egg.

You test when you're late for your period same as always.

Typically you dont want to continue taking birth control if you think you're pregnant. INstead you want to make an appointment for blood work. Taking the pill while pregnant can lead to comlications with the fetus, and birth issues.

You have to remember too that the side effects of the pill are the EXACT same symptoms as pregnancy. Also, THINKING you might be pregnant causes the female body to act as though it is.

However, the pill is only 92% effective acording to usage. Its supposed to be taken EVERY DAY, the SAME TIME every day, at the right doctor monitored dosage (this hormone level might change from time to time and the dosage you need might change) and all of this must be done perfectly for atleast three months in order for the pill to be 98% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Studies prove that 1 in every 100 women who take the pill for atleast a year will become pregnant while on the pill.

All that said, so long as you are usually religous about when and how you take the pill, and happened to miss just one day, its very unlikely that you're pregnant.

Its your call. Take a test when you're late, or go in for blood work.

Well, I'm the expert in negative pregnancy tests being wrong but don't let that worry you as it's not a common problem. You can take one now but you'll need an ultra sensitive one so that it picks up on the minute amount of pregnancy hormone that there may be there or you can wait until your first day of your missed period. Either way you'll be made to retake at the doctors anyway so I'd wait and save your money. Good luck, either way!

are you in the uk? if you are you can get a pregnancy test from any pound land and it'll only cost you a pound amazingly!!

you can have a false negative result but not a false positive one. (not that I've ever known or heard of anyway)

the cheaper tests are just as reliable as the dearer ones and they are so good now they can tell you from day 1.

if you still feel your symptoms after a negative test do another in 2weeks, if that's negative forget about it.

i sense that your worried about getting pregnant even though you are on the pill, if you want to be sure and to protect yourself from disease use a condom also.

the pill alone is 99.5% effective but it wont stop you from getting std's.
using a condom will make sure. if he wont wear one, then are you sure you want to have sex with a guy who doesn't care about you enough to protect you??

hope you work this out x
hope this helps x

The pill does not affect the results. If when you finish your pack as usual and you miss your period, take the test then

I would not allow your period or any bloodshow be an indicator at this time. It's too ambiguous. Check your packaging for the pill you are currently taking for the ingredient hCG, stop taking it if it is present because it will effect your results of a pregnancy test.
