Landslide by the Dixie Chicks.
My partner and I had been together for five months and everything felt so great. I was at University in a town far away from my home town and he lived in the town my University was in, working in a warehouse. My mother wasn't in favour of our relationship even though I was nineteen at the time, and told me I had to come home for the Summer. At the time, I didn't want to make her mad- and my father was really abusive and would have hurt either me or one of my sisters who still lived at home.
I announced I had to go home for the Summer. I wrote it in a letter because I couldn't bear to tell him. We were and are really inseperable.
I went into the bathroom and burst into tears, as he read the letter. When I came back into the bedroom, he was sobbing on the bed and had put on a song he said reminded him of me. It was landslide by the Dixie Chicks. The lines 'I'm afarid of change because I've built my life around you', really moved me and he was inconsolable.
I managed five days back in my home town before I realised I could have a new life away from the abuse and emotional blackmail. I think that song tripped a switch in my brain that told me to go back to the man I love.
I can't listen to that song now, it reminds me of our struggle to be together and how we had to build everything from scratch- how when I returned to him I did not bring anything because if I took a suitcase my parents would surely have realised what I was doing and made it so I couldn't go anywhere. My partner bought me clothes, he worked extra hours, and later I found a job so we could have a life together.
We are getting married in Feb and that song will play at our wedding.
Sorry this was so long, I just felt like telling someone...

Sometimes the song "Broadsword" by Jethro Tull makes me cry. It is about a Saxon village being attacked by Vikings, the song is from the point of view of the chieftain and it is clear that he does not expect to survive the battle. Usually it doesn't do this but it has done if I am in a really emotional state.
The only other song that has done this is "Now and Then" by Blackmore's Night which is about a sad breakup. Again usually I don't cry over it, but if I have had a really bad time it might affect me.

My father died when i was 13 and that song means so much to me, every word in it, i can relate with. I used to ball like crazy, but now its just bring that tear to my eye. It made me so happy through that the song was created.
