Nora realizes that, since she was a child, she has basically been under the absolute control of two men: first her father, and then her husband, Torvald. Whatever else she has accomplished, she knows that she first has to be fully indenpendent in order to live a meaningful life. Despite the enormous societal pressures on her to remain in an unfulfilled marriage, she HAS to leave.

The really interesting thing about Nora is that in stepping out of Torvald's house, she has also stepped irrevocably out of her position in society. This of course poses a lot of questions that begin to encompass other social issues such as Women's Suffrage and other Civil Rights matters. I like to believe that Nora will somehow go out and make a life for herself, albeit a difficult one. Her choices really are fairly grim if you consider the social climate of that particular time period.
