I found writings in an old steven king book that was purchased at a 1970's yard sale. The writings would say things like a females name, a date, a hotel name, and the room number lol. It was sort of obvious what it was describing. I read them all. Some had multiple names. Sometimes he would just write how he was feeling on a page. Some even have what the whether was like that day. I got really curious when I found a couple entries stating an hotel name, a room # and a name that was male. This is of course considering the owner of the book was male also. lol. I got such a thrill reading these. I still have the book.

A friend of mine found money in a used book.
Once I found a used book where the reader had made notations about characters they knew in the book and locales. The book was fiction but based upon real people from the 1920s.

I have found index cards, postcards, cash register receipts, and even an airline ticket stub. Perhaps they were being used as bookmarks?
Reminds me of a story - possibly apocryphal - about Albert Einstein. He supposedly once used a check for $1500 as a bookmark, then lost the book.

I often find things in library books, a lotery ticket (not a winner) a bird book mark, a shoppinglist, I really enjoy finding these things, and always put them back in for the next person. I have considered starting up a project where I put things in the library books I take out for people to find.

I once bought an old second-hand copy of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, and found a train ticket inside that had been bought by someone called Dr Watson, (his name was printed on the ticket). Strange coincidence!!!
