Do not Pay. You first try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html The problem will be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
After running the virus scan delete all temprory internet files including off line content and also unwanted files and temp. files. Finally, carryout a defragmentation . Your system will be back to the normal...!

Use a rootkit virus removal tool. Do a search on google. Some may work others may not due to rootkit viruses being a new breed of virus that although may be detected by antivirus software because of their nature they become impossible to remove or quarantine. A rootkit tool is designed to detect and delete these files and importantly the alternate data streams that allow it to reside in memory.

Can you supply anymore details on the file? It doesn't sound like a virus if you have wiped your drive. Have you tried installing the free trial of Webroot Spysweeper and scanning your drive with that?
(Norton sucks btw - try Mcaffee next time)

If you want the scorched earth approach, use fdisk to repartition your disk using FAT32 rather than NTFS. Reformat the disk. If you're happy with the limitations of FAT32, that will have cured the problem.
If you want to go back to NTFS, you need to use a program like VAIO soft drive eraser to scrub all the rootkits off the hard disk before repartitioning reformatting and reinstalling.

When your computer is up and running hit ctrl + Alt + Delete and see what processes are running. If you know what you are looking for, select it and click on end task. Otherwise search your Program Files, again you need to know what you are looking at. When the file is on your desktop, can you click on it and select Properties - that should tell you all about it. Good luck and hope I have helped.

Try this link
Click on Scan Online and then follow the links. It takes a while so should be left running overnight. It will also delete any files that it finds that have viruses in.
Good luck.
