This is always a tough question, as the next Australian Test captain depends a lot on timing and being in the right place at the right time. There will be a few good candidates when Ricky decides to retire but at this stage I wouldn’t like to make a prediction because I think Ricky will play for a few more years yet.

Martyn should be the next Australian Captain as by the time Ponting retires all other stalwarts in the Australian Team will also retire and Martyn will be the most experienced player left out in the Austraian Team

Hussey would be a good captain but he's not got too many years left in him.

Apart from Clarke, there's no one considerably younger in the team. As Clarke's place isn't guaranteed, this is a hard question to answer.

WA has a high opinion of Chris Rogers, who will probably be Langer's replacement after this series.

I'll wait to see what you rate as your best answer!

It probably wont come from the current crop of players as Ponting is one of the youngest at 31.

Hussey is the same age and would be next in line I believe if Ponting were to retire early (I doubt it).

So the next will prbably come from either Clarke, or someone on the rise such as Phil Jacques or Cameron White.

Who pronounced its going to be Clarke first? keep in mind how Gilchrist substitute into sought after to take over Steve Waugh...then it went to Ponting and Gilchirst stayed at VC. yet on the 2d, you may think of Clarke could take it if it substitute into on grant day after today. i think of that Mitchell Johnson will substitute into an Aussie veteran and have the management skills to captain, or Brad Haddin...who's usual with.

Mike Hussey. Although I can't see Ricky Ponting dropping off the radar any time soon, Hussey would be the man for the job. I mean come on: his nickname is Mr Cricket!

Who ever the captain is they are going to keep winning. It really doesn't matter to them who their captain is.
