um, where is your source? they have better traction and therefore safer....also as far as milage goes, yeah, maybe a little.

Because a) the US auto industry is (allegedly) in bed with Big Oil and b) a lot of consumers are stupid enough to buy them. If people didn't buy these gas hogs, Detroit would stop making 'em.
