I love business and law, and also computers, but not computer engineering. I hate sciences so that cuts out a lot of possibilites. What should i major in to give me the most potential for success? Also, given the major, where should i go? I applied to UCLA, CAL, UCSD, UCSC, UCSB, SDSU, UCI, CSU: san marcos, CAL Poly

Thanks for the help!

First, don't be overly concerned as to what you should major in. A student who declares his major when he applies for the freshman year will change his major, on average, four times before he graduates. You should major in what you enjoy the most and you will know a lot more about what you like after you have taken some college courses. You should be aware that to be an attorney you will have to attend law school after earning your bachelor's degree. You can major in almost anything and go to law school but you would be well advised to take a fair amount of history and government courses.

As to your interest in business, if you want a degree in accounting I would suggest that you take a five-year course that would give you not only a bachelor's degree but would prepare you to take the CPA examination, after you have the appropriate amount of experience.

If you don't like computer engineering, I would guess that a major in computer science might not be the best way to go for you. Most computer programmers that I have known have had a tendency to burn out and turn to something else, such as teaching computer science. If you have any interest in teaching, however, that is an excellent field but you would have to include the professional education courses in your credits in order to teach at the secondary level.

I think you have applied to excellent universities and that you should visit as many of them as you can to get a "feel" for how you would like them.

Whatever your best at, you should go for. Set up a list of pros and cons of each. Im sure that will help alot. UCLA, I heard is real good. But you should expand your horizons. NYU is the best.
