I need to find the hot water line, but they are not visible under the sink. I do see the waste line going through the back wall. Will I have to punch through this wall to tap into the line. Assuming it is old galvanized pipe, what special fittings will I need to connect to new dishwasher. thanks.

The water supply pipes are likely enclosed in the wall.

You will have to cut a big enough hole through thr plaster to work on thr pipes. You should only have to tap into the hot water suppy and waste for a dishwasher.

If you encounter galvanized pipes you will need pipe cutters and possibly threading tools to tap into the pipe?

Check with Home Hardware or Home Depot for possible adaptors for tapping into galvanized pipe by just drilling a hole in them and clamping on a "T" connector.

There are many new adaptors that make working on old plumbing simpler.

Your best bet is to connect a "T" where the hot water for the sink comes in. You are going to have to cut holes no matter what. As for the drain line, if it is galvanized, you can cut a section of pipe out and replace it with a rubber section that has a "Y" tap. Look at Home Depot where the rubber clamp-on pipe fittings are found. They are AWESOME for splicing.
