No, the US went into Iraq with no understanding at all of the customs, religion, and society that made up the country. By removing a strong dictator the US unleashed anarchy. The only solution is a strong dictator to put down the insurrection and use wholesale killing to restore order. This is why there were so many mass graves; mass executions were necessary under Saddam Hussein to keep the people in line, mass executions are still necessary now. Democracy as we know it will never work in Iraq, and the longer the US labors under the delusion that it will, the longer the killing will continue.

It wasn't Bush's plan but he is not a strategist. He was warned that this would be the out come but he refused to listen. If you have read ANY history of the Persian civilization, these tribal groups have been at each other's throats for thousands of years. What made anyone think that when unleashed they would perform any differently than their ancestors. Bush obviously does not care nor has read much middle east history. So Pandora's box is again open. This was a civil war with roots before the birth of Christ.

They thought it was going to be real simple or something. The situation is atrocious and disturbing. I don't really see how they thought they could establish a democracy in that country in the midst of the Middle East. I don't even think that country was tied to the terrorists that were attacking the US. Sometimes people should just not go where they don't belong.
As for plans -- the best laid plans can go astray. When they do, you'd best have a backup plan.

Absolutely not! The plan was to remove Saddam from power and establish a democracy in Iraq. Since that time the insurgent forces and other malitias have been doing their best to disrupt the peace and gain control.

The plan was to make the Bush family and his friends in the oil industry very wealthy, and he succeeded at that.
George Bush doesn't care how many people die to reach this, and Cheney is the same too. Other people's children dying doesn't bother them a bit.

Probably. They keep troops there until Bush is in office. And when democrats finally get troops home any thing bad happens in Middle East GOP will blame it on democrats for getting troops home too soon, 'not getting the job done' for next million years. THat's the plan, GOP blaming every terror attack, middle east crysis on democrats.

You think there was a plan?
The Iraqis would have been better off under Saddam, he had this whole thing under control and not nearly as many would have died under him as did (and still do!) with our help...

i doubt the republicans thought that far ahead. there is a lot of meddling by countries other than the U.S. if it weren't for them there would be less trouble. kind of like what happened to the soviets in Afghanistan. look what happened to them.
