Is it not caused by bad diet and therefore self inflicted?

And why are women always whinging about it? after all they don't suffer from it they manufacture it. It is us innocent men who are on the business end of it. Logic dictates therefore that it is men who really suffer from PMS.

Nice answers only please.

Um, I don't know who you've been talking to but PMS is NOT a self-inflicted disease.
What it is, is a chemical imbalance caused by the surge of hormones right before menstruation. Its not caused by a bad diet but its symptoms can be worsened by what the woman eats. Just because you eat the right food doesn't mean that you won't have PMS, foods can HELP the symptoms but, they can't cure the PMS completely.
Maybe its fair that the men suffer from PMS since they don't understand it and never get it. Either way, please read the articles below as they may give you a better insight into what PMS really is.

Well - it is hormonally based, so it is real not imagined. There is pain associated and a lot of pain for some women. Also discomfort and general uncomfortableness. If you think this is womb shedding what it had prepared for a life cycle to happen it's not going to happen without some changes to the body. As far as diet - can play a part in anyones life. It is a real symptom for some women. I've actually been told that PMS actually stands for Putting up with Mens Sh*t - now that is something ALL women suffer from - and it ain't self inflicted!!!

It is not a disease.
It is not caused by bad diet.
It is a set of hormonal changes and some people experience it more drastic than other.
It can be very painful and unpleasant.
It shouldn't have any social, cultural or other connotations and shouldn't be used to disqualify women.

And if some men think they suffer from PMS of their partners', then it is self-inflicted by their narrowed mind, since there is no any physiological and biochemical base for that.

Nicer question next time, please.

Bad diet and lack of exercise can exacerbate PMS, it's true. However, that's not the whole story. Right before our periods, we experience a huge drop in hormone levels which basically replicates, every month, the symptoms of withdrawal. Also, along with all that blood and gunk, our bodies release a hormone that causes cramping. Different women have different mileage with this. Some sail through their periods, barely noticing a thing. Some like, alas, me, have a wretched time of it. I'm on hormonal birth control myself, as I was getting sick of the mood swings, the insane food cravings, the insane sex cravings, and the yeast infections, not to mention the cramps and nausea that would knock me out for a day.

Women complain about it because we are only human, and we have to deal with this very uncomfortable and inconvenient thing every month, and then we have to deal with guys claiming that we're just "making it up". Look, it's not fun. Even without the cramps and the hormone fluctuations and the bloating (ten pounds sometimes!), we're still bleeding icky, smelly goo out of one of our orifices. One of our organs is basically melting. If that doesn't qualify as an adverse physical condition, I don't know what does. We're uncomfortable, tired, and in pain. How nice and complain-free were you last time you had a terrible headache or a cold that kept you up all night? Exactly.

By the way, if you want nice answers, you should ask your questions nicely. "Whinging"? It's poor innocent men who suffer when the women in their lives are crampy, hormonal, and bloated? Jeez, who's whining now?

As you are a man, and cannot yourself get horrific stomach cramps and hormonal changes that can result in suicide, I really don't think you're informed enough to comment on this issue. As many of the posts above have pointed out, it has nothing to do with diet. I am obsessive about eating well and have the most appalling, chronic cramps (it actually feels as if someone has their hand up my groin and is pulling everything out). Sometimes it is so painful I feel like I can't breathe. The pain lasts for hours, sometimes days. I doubt you'd be in the best of humours under these conditions.
I certainly would never choose to undergo this of my own violtion, in fact, I pray for the menopause.
How old are you? If you are over the age of 21, you should be old enough to know better than to spew rubbish like this.

You ask a question that lacking in any common sense, you will likely get rude answers....
No, Neanderthal, PMS is not self-inflicted. It is completely hormonally based, and varies from person to person based on the differing levels of hormones.
If you have a significant other, she probably uses her PMS to get back at you for being so ignorant.

PMS is NOT a self inflicted disease and your question could only have been asked by a very insensitive man. Men suffer from PMS as much as they suffer from "male menopause" - luckily my hormones are in check so that I am able to give you this nice answer.

PMS is caused by a hormonal imbalance

you can't regulate that yourself.

some women ,get a severe imbalance
and can be ver badly affected
= grouchy -- to suicidal
Some even commit murder. at this time

women can go through hell with PMS

Most women just get mood swings
and feel rough for a few days, til the balance restores it self naturally .

Hormonal treatment is available,
but this has to be very carefully tailored to the individual sufferers needs .

It takes a great deal of love and understanding,
on the part of men
who are in close contact with PMS sufferers .

It is not a 'self inflicted' ailment .

Diet does not, play a part in PMS either.

i hope this has helped you
consider , before you make wildly inaccurate
and possibly hurtful, assumptions about PMS.

PMS is most certainly NOT self-inflicted!
I've worked with enough women with period problems to know that these pains and emotional disturbances are very real.
Shiatsu iscan be helpful for relieving menstrual problems.
If your partner has PMS, reccommend Shiatsu, give her some space and don't get angry yourself.
It's a bugger for both parties, but it can be helped.
