You can go there direct on the tube. (Victoria Line) It's only 10 stops, and takes just over 20 minutes.

they are connected directly by the Victoria Underground Line. It takes around 20 - 25 minutes from Highbury and Islington Station to Brixton

On the tube - Victoria Line - it's about 25 minutes away, or in the rush hour about an hour presuming you can actually get on a train. Approximately 7 miles overground.
