Abiword is free and runs on most operating systems. The built in grammer checker is very good, though it doesn't tell you what is wrong. Most writers swear by Strunk & White

There are also some online grammar resources.

As for context just make friends with some native English speakers and don't be afraid to ask questions. They are not much of a friend if they are not willing to answer your questions.

One way to really expand your English usage is to get into an online activity that encourages you to meet with people real time. Online games like www.thereincarnation.com or www.kingsofchaos.com are two such games that through game play you wind up in IRC and IM talking to people real time. Your
Forums are another slower way of doing that. Chat comunities are another. Remember that the shortcut language used is not proper English. So when u c abrevs like these it's short for you see abreviations like these. It will greatly expand your vocabulary. In game messages can be rather offensive so take a thick skin :)

The best thing you can do is read the newspaper and magazines out loud. I was able to help brain-injured patients regain language ability by using this as an exercise. I did it, too, when I was learning Swedish, Greek, Spanish and French. You can also watch television. First, listen to the news in your native language, then the same newscast in English. Try to repeat what the newscaster said.

There are many websites that offer english classes for free. Try them out. Practice whenever you are able to, watch english and american channels with no subtitles, look up words in a good dictionary, read things from the internet... practice makes perfect.
I try to practice it aswell as often as i can, since it's not my first language. English is quite easy to learn, unlike french... I'm learning it now, and I find it much more difficult.
Good luck!

Listen to me, buy one of those digital dictionaries (the cheaper one could cost US$50) and believe in yourself, try to read and carry all the time this dictionary (also when you are in the bathroom, there are games to learn it's fantastic).
If you are a beginner try with a bilingual, but if don't buy an english to english.
