I have traveled through that area many times and I would have to say that Abbotsford and Langley are very nice areas with a multitude of services and shopping, but would have to agree with another poster, that Cloverdale is too small. Although they do film a lot of TV in and around Cloverdale.

Depends on what you want. If it has to be close to Abbotsford, then why not just live in Abbotsford? i don't care much for it personally, but it's an okay city overall, has all the things you need. I like cloverdale, because it is so small, and Chillwak is nice, but it's a ways away. I didn't care for Langly anymore than Abbotsford.

If you have neither job nor home in Abbotsford, then why limit yourself to that city? vancouver et al is so very much a nicer place to live, IMO.

Anyway, BC is gorgeous, you will love it, where ever you settle.

Abbotsford is better for work because it is larger and has access to Vancouver via daily train directly if needed.

Its a 45 minute drive to Vancouver but 1-2 hours durning rush hour. I just typed in Abbotsford,BC and it has all you need to know about the place.

Welcome to Canada !!!

OMG! I just went through this! I also live in Michigan (northern-brrrrrrrrrrrr!) and have been cooped up indoors for 4 solid months with my 3 year old and 1 year old. We have such bad cabin fever right now that I'm ready to just pack up and move down to Florida. But, we would then be away from my family. My daughter just spent 20 min. talking to Grandma on the phone the other night and loves her to pieces. Not only do my kids have great relationships with their grandparents, aunts and uncles, but I have great memories of spending time with my family as a child. There is nothing that can replace family. We lived 3 hours from my family when I had my daughter and I was in agony! I definately choose the cold with my family as opposed to the warm and no family. The decision is ultimately your choice and I hope I have been able to help you out. Also, depending on where you live in MI, there are a lot of indoor activities that you can do with your child during the colder months. Good luck!

Your closest good choices would be Abbotsford itself, then either Chilliwack or Langley. I live in the area, and have lived in BC since 1953. Cloverdale is very small.

I recommend West Vanouver - stay away from anywhere near Abbotsford.
