Why would anyone consider rap as a type of music?

Question

It is not original in the music they use. It is all bass or one note played over and over. The words are not anything but poems, and their is not music to make it into a song.
I know it is a form of self-expression, but so is poetry, which is set to a set of musical notes to make it a song.
but rap is not even that.
I am not being critical of those who like it, i just would really like to know why it is considered music. It is not.

well i consider rap a type of music only because it has a beat that can make you dance like a song. a poem doesnt do that to me.

There is music in it though. There are beats and all of that. I guess anything can be considered music. Whether it's complicated or good really doesn't stop it from being music. I consider it more poetry than anything, but I think of it as the musical form of poetry. Even though the lyrics are like the easiest rhyming schemes a poet can do, it still takes a small amount of talent.

People enjoy it though. It's catchy and good to dance to. I could see debating on whether or not it's art, but I think it's definatly music. Rap is to music what porn is to movies.

All over the world, peoples have their form of music, instruments that have not been seen in America! Who assigned you as the principle authority as to what constitute music?

You do not have to enjoy a given style, at the same time you do not have the right to belittle the others just because it is not what you like!

Just like other people like jazz,country,oldies,etc other people also like rap. Why? It's true it is a way to express yourself and and it is basically poetry but what is so wrong about trying to turn poetry into music. I myself love rap music it's just something that most people like. Just like you like what you do then other people like what they like which most of the time is rap.

Rap was ceated to confuse and irritate people who don't understand it...the secret words contained in rap aren't found in any dictionary, they are put there to jumble your brain and to confuse you even more....I hope i made the understanding of rap music even more discouraging 4-u...
