it is a craftsman lawnmower with a auto hydrostatic transmission.
could somebody please tell me what type of fluid i need to put in it

I don't believe, oddly enough, they use transmission fluid in a hydro transmission. I did some research on the Tecumseh website. If you have a lawn tractor, they use Mobil 424 Fluid. But If your transaxle is a Peerless, they use 20W20 CD rated Motor Oil. You can check yourself at www.tecumseh.com click on the engine link.

I would go with Dex-ron unless the owners manual says different. The Ford type ATF has a gritty feel to it and is only supposed to be used in Ford products. (Ford went to the Dex-ron a few years ago because of this problem.) Any 10W non-detergent hydraulic oil will work
