Seperation of food colours by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)?

Question i have is: This experiment qualitatively analysed for component dyes. Explain what this means.

Please help i missed the class and dont understand. Can anyone answer this for me in basic plain english?

It means that the experiment was to find out what colours were present in a food colour. Most colours are actually a mixture of colours which can be separated by TLC

TLC is used qualitatively due to its ability to analyse and distinguish which dyes are present when compared with a known dye or food colour.
