I just started a Seasonal job at Target yesterday, as a cashier. (i'm 16.) I feel really stupid, I thought seasonal meant "part time" because during the interview they asked me whether I would like to work seasonal or permanent. (this is my first job, so I wasn't sure) I want to continue working past the holiday season, should I wait a few weeks to tell them I'm avaliable after the season, so that they will know how good of a worker I am, or is it better to bring it up as soon as possible?

Thanks!

I'd give it at least 2 weeks and ideally a month so they can get an idea of how well you work. Because you're considered a seasonal worker they probably won't have scheduled an employee review for you. Although it may be difficult to squeeze in during the holiday season, I'd suggest mentioning to your supervisor *before Christmas* that you want to stay, because after the holiday they've probably gotten their layoff list already written.

Incidentally, you may also want to give it a couple weeks to make sure you really like the job. If so, about Dec 10 or so tell your manager something like, "I've decided I really like it here and would like to be considered for permanent employment." That will get their attention and still give them time to watch your work before the holidays.

Needless to say, you'll have to make a point to show them that you're a good enough worker to keep. Good luck and happy holidays!

I'd give it two weeks. You may not like it after a couple weeks, who knows? Then approach a manager and say that you would really enjoy working there and appreciate the job, and what do you have to do to become a permanent employee after the holiday season's over?

I'm sure if you're doing a great job, they can find a spot for you after all the other temp employees leave.
