I have a xps 600 with a 260gb samsung sata hadrive, while reformating the hadrive, something i've done manytimes on older systems running xp and 2000, setup loads drivers then i get to the screen that says press enter to install windows or type R for repair i hit enter then i get the message that setup didn't find any harddrive on my system. I have checked the bios all drives showup I ran CHKDSK no errors on the haddrive, i tried a bootable floppy got the same error during windows xp setup
I thought it might be a RAID controler problem but i only have 1 HD on my system, any tips or suggestions would be apreciated.

Press F2 during the Dell screen to go to the system setup and check if HDD is recognized, if it's not, shut down system, remove the battery, reseat the HDD, refer to support.dell.com for instructions. After reseating and the HDD is still not recognized, you need a replacement.

Go through the BIOS, each one is different but your problems normally center around either running sata in compatible or native mode, or running as PATA with SATA Keep alive enabled. Keep playing with the BIOS, you will get it. Also there may be two boot menus both device selection AND hard drive priority.

Try install again, delete partation and create partation, format it again. XP partation system a little different from 2000.
